Program for citizen participation

In the current situation, the primary problem is the lack of good practices of communications between government and citizens. Disturbing are undoubtedly the practices of relations between the parties in power and the government that is controlled by them, which excludes from the process the supporters of opposition and other independent citizens regarding connections with political parties. FOL is going to work to bring closer the citizens with elected officials and public ones through democratic forms of pressure, but also by facilitating communication in this context.

The quality and effectiveness of citizen participation in decision making process are the condition and the meter of democracy of a country. Apathy and indifference of the citizens of Kosovo on the processes is increasing as a result of ignoring the requests of citizens by government and the lack of government effective ways to enable participation. No doubt that the indifference of citizens is grounded in the bitter past authoritarian, discriminating and totalitarian governance. Citizen participation in decision-making process is a necessity for a democratic and open society.

Regarding the Citizen Participation Program, Movement FOL is committed to advance the implementation of law and freedom of speech and press through the identification of obstacles regarding the implementation of this right. We will present the award for “Civil Courage” to honour and recognize the contribution and courage of journalists and civil society activists in raising issues and taboo topics of interest to the public and society, particularly fighting corruption, and implementation of civil and political rights, etc.

Movement FOL is going to work to rehabilitate the concept of protest by developing alternative and constructive forms of public protest that enable to express the dissatisfaction of the citizens against wrong policies and actions of the state and public institutions. Movement FOL is going to facilitate organizing in the community and neighbourhood to protect the common good and public interest
